So National Portfolio Day is in a little over a week. It's crunch time. Luckily, I have a fair amount of artwork to choose from when I put my portfolio together over the next week or so. It's just a matter of getting my things photographed and such, which I'm sure will be a sort of nerve wrecking process. Anyway, I'm just really excited that things are coming together.

Still-life
Currently working on a still life for arts academy marking peiod project with peacock feathers, drapery, oranges, a perfume bottle and some other junk I found in my house. As soon as I started painting I immediately wished that I hadn't put so many sheets in the composition. Why is capturing the movement and flow of fabric so damn hard?

Inspiration: Nick Mauss
Its been a really hectic summer, and I've realized that I'm really not too good at juggling my personal life, my hobbies and school. I've been so consumed with trying to finish my summer reading and such the past few weeks that I completely abandoned my Parsons Challenge, which I really wanted to be finished with by the end of the summer. But I feel a little relieved because I actually have a fairly solid idea of what I want to do... at this point its just about the execution. I also need to start composing my portfolio. I feel like I'm just about half way there - again its just about me prioritizing and managing to set some time aside to do some work and organize the whole thing. Anyway, this Sunday I was lucky enough to take some time from my crazy schedule to go to the MOMA with my sister. Anyway, one artist who we saw whose work I really dug was Nick Mauss - love love love how crazy you can get with mixed media pieces

Hiatus
Whew. I've been away for a ridiculously long time. But school's finally over, which means that I can finally dedicate more of my time to my artwork. I'm kind of stressing a little right now about working on my portfolio this summer. But I'm doing a summer session at F.I.T. which starts in about a week. Also trying to brainstorm ideas for the aptly titled "Parsons Challenge". Not as easy as I thought. I was just scouring some of the new posts on urban sketchers, hoping that I would be able to gather some sort of inspiration. I wanted to go outside to sketch today, but seeing as Teaneck is faced with yet another gray and damp day it's looking like I'll have to just settly for an indoor scene to sketch. Anyway, here's to getting started on my summer artistic endeavors and making these posts more frequent.

Not Dead Yet
I know that I whine about school in like every single post, but school has been hell lately... with only four weeks left (thank god!) all of my teachers are cramming in all these projects and tests. But I digress ... today was the last day of my F.I.T. class. It's bittersweet - I really enjoyed the class, but it'll be nice to have my Saturdays back. Anyway, Fred still hasn't shown me how to upload my pictures... but I guess its okay because I have been majorly slacking on my art lately. I worked a little on a painting of a birdbath in my yard that I started over Spring Break, but didn't get that far. I'm kind of starting to get a little panicked because I feel like I don't have a lot of substantial pieces to put in my portfolio. This summer I'm just gonna hole myself up in my room and paint myself into an art coma...

Van Gogh
Overdone? Maybe. But there's a reason why everyone adores him so much right? I seriously can't help this unrequited cush that I have on Van Gogh - He's just so damn interesting! Anyway, I just flipping through Marc Edo Tralbaut's Vincent Van Gogh (which my dad got my mom for Valentine's Day 20+ years ago) and just thought I'd post a little ditty on him. Any way, here's some Van Gogh pieces I really dig:
